Our Story

From Acapulco's Coast to Manly's Shore

It started with a mother's journey. She came from Acapulco — the real Acapulco, not the postcard version — carrying recipes that had been in the family for generations. Recipes born from the Pacific coast, where the ocean meets the kitchen and every meal is a celebration.

She came to Manly to train our kitchen. To teach us how to make tortillas that crack just right, salsas that make your eyes water and your mouth sing, ceviches so fresh you can taste the ocean. She didn't just bring recipes — she brought a way of cooking. A philosophy. Food is love made visible.

The Golden Era

Acapulco in the 1970s and 80s was magic. Cliff divers at La Quebrada, golden sunsets over the Pacific, palapas on the sand, mezcal flowing like water. It was glamorous and raw at the same time. That's the energy we brought to Belgrave Street.

Cantina Acapulco was never just a restaurant. It was a portal. You walked in off the streets of Manly and suddenly you were on a sun-bleached beach in Mexico, with a margarita in your hand and a taco that made you forget your problems.

La Sirena — The Mermaid

The mermaid is our guardian. In Mexican coastal mythology, she's the protector of fishermen, the keeper of the ocean's bounty. She appears on everything we make — our logo, our plates, our walls, our hearts.

She represents what Cantina Acapulco stands for: the meeting of land and sea, tradition and boldness, beauty and danger. Like the cliff divers of La Quebrada, she reminds us that the most spectacular things in life require a leap of faith.

The Movement

We're not just a restaurant. We're a movement. The kitchen is closed for now, but the fire isn't out — it's spreading. Through our cookbook, our private chef experiences, our pop-up events, and the community that refuses to let the vibe die.
