Ceviche de Jaiba

A Gulf coast classic from Veracruz and Tampico — sweet shredded jaiba (blue crab) mixed with tomato, cucumber, jalapeño and lime. No cooking needed; the crab is already cooked, the lime just brightens it. Eaten by the spoonful on tostadas with a squeeze of mayo and a splash of hot sauce.

1 Ingredients

  • 500g jaiba meat (blue crab), cooked and shredded
  • 1/2 cup lime juice
  • 1 cup Roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup cucumber, diced (seeds removed)
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely diced
  • 1 jalapeño, deveined and finely minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Clamato (optional, for extra depth)
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • Tostadas and mayonnaise, to serve
